Seine langjährige Begleiterin Christa Stippinger vom Verein Exil organisierte gemeinsam mit Freunden und Begleitern einen Abend in Gedenken an Jovanović. „Er hatte noch so viel Potenzial, so viele Ideen“, bringt Christa Stippinger den großen Verlust auf den Punkt. Auch Mozes Heinschink verabschiedete sich in seiner Rede emotional vom Roma-Poeten: „Es verband uns eine 40-jährige Freundschaft“, sprach der Sprachwissenschafter bewegt. Ivana Ferencova und der Chor der „Frauen in Weiß“ sowie das „roma.klang.theater.exil“ (Koloman Polak, Zuzana Rasiová, Karol Csino, Miroslav Suchomel, Ladislav Cibulka und Nikolaus Scheibner) und der Sohn des Verstorbenen, Obrad Jovanović lasen und vertonten die Texte. The meeting is being organized on behalf of the Gypsy Lore Society by [spi:k] (Sprache, Identität, Kultur), an Austrian association dedicated to the documentation of minority cultures and languages, and two Austrian Roma organisations, Romano Centro and Roma-Service. More information about the conference will be published on the Gypsy Lore Society web site.

Call for Papers: Papers on any aspect of Gypsy Studies are welcome, but substantive scholarly papers will be given priority. Papers should be 20 minutes long with an additional 10 minutes allotted for discussion. Abstracts should be submitted no later than March 15, 2011. Notification of acceptance will be announced by May 15, 2011.
