Von den Männern wurde diese Tätigkeit in der Öffentlichkeit praktiziert. Bei traditionellen Zusammenkünften und zu Hause übernahmen die Frauen das Erzählen. Durch die Veränderungen des gegenwärtigen Lebens der Roma ging das Märchenerzählen beinahe verloren. Diese alte Tradition muss weiterleben, so die heute 55-jährige Romni Christine Sztubics. Schleswig-Holstein: Anerkennung im Herbst

Schleswig-HolsteinSchleswig-Holstein wird als erstes deutsches Bundesland auch die Minderheit der Sinti und Roma unter den Schutz seiner Verfassung stellen

Im fünften Anlauf, die Voksgruppe der Roma und Sinti in Schleswig-Holstein als Minderheit anzuerkennen und unter den Schutz der Landesverfassung zu stellen, scheint nun eine politische Mehrheit für die nächste Abstimmung im Herbst gefunden zu sein. Den Antrag eingebracht hatte die Regierungskoalition, bestehend aus SPD, Grünen und SSW (dem Südschleswigschem Wählerverband, der die dänische und friesische Minderheit vertritt). Da auch FDP und Piraten den Antrag unterstützen, dürfte die erforderliche Zwei-Drittel-Mehrheit (46 Stimmen) nun gesichert sein.

Der Artikel 5 der Verfassung soll künftig alle drei autochthonen Volksgruppen Schleswig-Holsteins berücksichtigen: „Die nationale dänische Minderheit, die Minderheit der deutschen Sinti und Roma und die friesische Volksgruppe haben Anspruch auf Schutz und Förderung.“

Damit wäre Schleswig-Holstein das erste Bundesland Deutschlands, das auch die Minderheit der Sinti und Roma unter den Schutz seiner Verfassung stellt. Die rechtliche Anerkennung würde an deren Lebensverhältnissen unmittelbar zwar wenig ändern, wäre aber ein bedeutsamer symbolischer Akt. Der diesbezügliche Antrag wurde am Donnerstag im Kieler Landtag durch einstimmigen Beschluss an den Innen- und Rechtsausschuss überwiesen. Die Verfassungsänderung dürfte – nach den Beratungen im Ausschuss – dann im Herbst nur noch Formsache sein.

Zuletzt war ein Antrag, die Roma und Sinti mit der dänischen sowie friesischen Minderheit gleichzustellen, im Juni 2011 an der damaligen schwarz-gelben Koalition gescheitert. Read the rest of this entry »

In der taz berichtet Ralf Leonhard von einer neuerlichen Eskalation der Anti-Roma-Hetze in Ungarn. 400 Rechtsextreme fielen in den letzten Tagen in die Kleinstadt Cegléd, eine Autostunde südöstlich von Budapest, ein und schüchterten die dort lebenden Roma-Familien ein. Aus Angst vor Übegriffen verlassen viele Roma das Land. Die Fluchtwelle vor allem nach Kanada, wo in den vergangenen zehn Monaten an die 1.000 ungarische Roma um politisches Asyl ersucht haben, reißt nicht ab. Unter ihnen befindet sich u.a. die frühere EU-Abgeordnete Viktória Mohácsi. Im Jüdischen Museum in Eisenstadt wurden die Fred Sinowatz-Wissenschaftspreise für das Jahr 2011 vergeben. Zwei der drei Preisträger thematisieren in ihren zeitgeschichtlichen Publikationen das Schicksal der Juden und der Roma: zwei, im Burgenland ansässige Volksgruppen, die von den Nationalsozialisten fast vollständig vernichtet wurden.

„Symphonie der Hoffnung“ ist der Titel eines zeitgenössischen Musikwerks, das eine grausame Episode aus der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus zum Inhalt hat. Konkret geht es um das Schicksal von 123 Personen, die aus St. Johann im Pongau und Goldegg deportiert und ermordet wurden – ein Schicksal, das auch viele Roma und Sinti ereilte. Die Symphonie der Hoffnung wurde im Wiener Musikverein aufgeführt, vom Sinfonischen Blasorchester Pongau unter der Leitung von Johann Mösenbichler und Harri Stojka, der selbst einen Großteil seiner Familie in den Vernichtungsstätten der Nationalsozialisten verlor.

Studienbesuch bei den Roma in Kroatien
Eine Gruppe der Volkshochschule der Burgenländischen Roma war kürzlich in Zagreb, um die Situation der Roma in Kroatien zu erkunden. Dabei wurden auch die Möglichkeiten für gemeinsame EU-Projekte ausgelotet. Die Chancen stehen gut, dass es bald ein burgenländisch-kroatisches Lernprojekt gibt, das beiden Seiten neue Perspektiven eröffnet.

Dieter W. Halwachs/Der Standard, 7.8.2012: Das Romani oder Romanes zählt zum indoarischen Zweig der indoeuropäischen Sprachen; Roma sind somit die einzigen Arier Europas. Seit Jahrhunderten auf heute österreichischem Gebiet gesprochen, ist es seit 1993 anerkannte Volksgruppensprache. Romani wird heute von einigen zehntausend Personen in Österreich verwendet.

Am längsten auf österreichischem Territorium leben Burgenland-Roma. Die stehen auch am Anfang der Emanzipationsbestrebungen Ende der 1980er-Jahre. Infolge der Selbstorganisation ergeben sich Kontakte mit anderen Roma. Dadurch wird der vom Genozid ausgelöste, kontinuierliche Rückgang in der Sprachverwendung als Verlust empfunden; fast 90 Prozent der in den 1930er-Jahren registrierten 6000 bis 7000 Burgenland-Roma wurden in den Konzentrationslagern ermordet. Die bis dahin kaum bewusst wahrgenommene eigene Sprache wird zum Identitätsfaktor, es kommt zu ersten Bemühungen um Spracherhalt.

Mit Herbst 1993 startet das Projekt zur Kodifizierung und Didaktisierung des Roman, wie die Burgenländer ihre Sprache bezeichnen. Publikationen erscheinen ab 1995, zwei Jahre später werden erste Sprachkurse angeboten. Innerhalb eines Jahrzehnts ändert sich der Status des Roman grundlegend. Anfangs kaum wahrgenommen und vom Aussterben bedroht, ist es heute der prominenteste Dialekt einer anerkannten Volksgruppensprache. Der öffentliche Gebrauch des Roman trägt zur Stärkung des Selbstwertgefühls und damit zum Selbstbewusstsein junger Burgenland-Roma bei; ein Aspekt, der über sprach­­pflegerischem Folklorismus steht.
