Dabei habe das Komitee im Juni die französischen Stellen dazu aufgerufen, rassistische Haltungen und Feindseligkeiten gegenüber dieser Bevölkerungsgruppe zu bekämpfen: „ECRI kann über diese äußerst negative Entwicklung nur seine Enttäuschung bekunden.“ Bereits im Jahr 2005 habe das ECRI Frankreich empfohlen, die Rechte von Roma in Hinblick auf deren Unterkunft, Gesundheitsversorgung und Bildung sicherzustellen.
„Generell ist das ECRI der Ansicht, dass der Antiziganismus, der eine besondere Form von Rassismus darstellt, von allen europäischen Ländern effizient bekämpft werden muss“, heißt es in der Presseerklärung weiter. „Die Politik von Regierungen oder Gesetzesvorschläge, die auf ethnischer Diskriminierung gründen, sind unzulässig und stehen den rechtlich bindenden Verpflichtungen aller Mitgliedstaaten des Europarates entgegen.“ Frankreich solle daher in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Ländern und Institutionen „dauerhafte Lösungen“ suchen.
