Zwei ältere Frauen spazieren mit einem kleinen Hund am Samstagvormittag durch die Straßen der nordtschechischen Glasstadt Novy Bor. Sie stoppen an einer Kreuzung vor einem leerstehenden Gebäude, schauen auf ein Plakat und diskutieren. Nach einem kurzen Gespräch reißt eine der beiden sorgfältig das Plakat von der Wand, wechselt die Straßenseite und wirft es in einen Müllcontainer. Um sie herum, ebenso wie in der gesamten Stadt, hängen noch weitere Aufkleber und Plakate, die sich gegen die neonazistische „Dělnická strana sociální spravedlnosti“ („Arbeiterpartei der sozialen Gerechtigkeit“, DSSS) und deren Rassismus gegen Roma richten. Als sie merkt, dass andere Leute stehen bleiben und schauen, schlendert die Frau mit ihrer Begleiterin weiter in Richtung Innenstadt.

Viele Menschen sind an diesem schwülen Sommertag in der rund 12.000 Einwohner zählenden Stadt unterwegs. MUT, 9.9.2011: In mehreren böhmischen Kleinstädten strömten an den letzten Wochenenden bis zu tausend Bürgerinnen und Bürger zusammen, um Wohnhäuser von Roma anzugreifen. In Varnsdorf, 500 Meter hinter der deutschen Grenze, konnten Spezialeinheiten der tschechischen Polizei am vergangenen Samstag in letzter Sekunde ein Pogrom verhindern. In den nächsten Tagen drohen erneut antiziganistische Massenaktionen.

Jaroslav Sykáček ist Bürgermeister von Rumburk und Sozialdemokrat. Für den Abend hat er die 11.000 Einwohnerinnen und Einwohner der nordböhmischen Stadt zu einer öffentlichen „Versammlung gegen Gewalt und Kriminalität“ aufgerufen. Als Anlass dient eine fünf Tage zurückliegende Schlägerei zwischen Jugendlichen vor der Diskothek „Modrá hvězda“, deren Hintergründe noch im Unklaren liegen, an der aber auch Roma beteiligt gewesen sein sollen. Die Kundgebung, zu der 1.500 Menschen kommen, eskaliert, als Sykáček das Mikrofon an Josef Mašín übergibt, dem er kurz zuvor noch eine gegen Roma gerichtete Demonstration verboten hatte. Mašín, Anführer der hauptsächlich bei Facebook aktiven antiziganistischen Gruppe „Občanský odpor“ („Bürgerlicher Widerstand“), fordert die Zuhörenden auf, Schluss zu machen mit dem Zuzug von „nicht Anpassungsfähigen“. Kurier, 12.9.2011 (Michaela Reibenwein):  In den 60er- und 70er-Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts kamen sie als Gastarbeiter und blieben – die Roma, die als Erntehelfer im Marchfeld tätig waren. Von kaum jemandem wurden sie wahrgenommen. Und so war es bis vor kurzem. Doch dann wurde Ines Kälin-Schreiblehner von der Caritas auf die Roma im Weinviertel aufmerksam. „Im Weinviertel gibt es rund 200 Roma-Familien mit rund tausend Personen“, sagt sie. Bekannt ist das erst seit kurzem. Die Probleme sind jedoch die alten: eine hohe Analphabeten-Rate, hohe Arbeitslosigkeit, Armut und wenig Bildung. Das Projekt „Missing Link“ soll das nun ändern. Freiwillige lernen dabei mit Roma-Kindern. „Damit diese Spirale durchbrochen wird“, sagt Kälin-Schreiblehner.

„Ich bin durch Zufall darauf gestoßen“, erzählt die Caritas-Mitarbeiterin. „Bei der Betreuung von anerkannten Flüchtlingen ist mir aufgefallen, dass die Roma alle aus demselben Ort kommen. ESRAIrene Brickner interviewte für den Standard den Psychiater und Neurologen Klaus Mihacek, der mit 1. Juli die ärztliche Leitung von Esra, dem 1994 gegründeten Wiener Zentrum für die psychosoziale Betreuung jüdischer und anderer Überlebender der NS-Verfolgung, übernahm. 2011 erhielt Esra den Bruno-Kreisky-Preis für Verdienste um die Menschenrechte. Im Interview ging Mihacek auch auf die über viele Jahrzehnte schwer auf den überlebenden Roma – und ihren Familien – lastende Traumatisierung durch die NS-Verfolgung ein, wie sie uns auch in vielen Zeitzeugengesprächen für Mri Historija und Amari Historija begegnet ist. Sie sind als Roma in Deutschland aufgewachsen und wurden in die Fremde abgeschoben. Nachdem die Bundesregierung 2010 mit dem neu gegründeten Staat Kosovo ein Rücknahmeabkommen geschlossen hat, sind Roma nicht länger geduldet. Während des Jugoslawien-Krieges wurden viele von ihnen, die vor Verfolgung in ihrer Heimat geflohen waren, hier aufgenommen, wo sie zum Teil jahrelang ohne gesicherten Aufenthalt, im sogenannten Duldungstatus, lebten. Während man sich im Sommer 2010 lautstark über den Umgang der französischen Behörden mit den Roma echauffierte, sprach niemand darüber, dass die Roma in Deutschland das gleiche Schicksal erwartet. Im Jahr 2011 sind mehr als 10.000 Roma akut von Abschiebung bedroht oder schon in den Kosovo „rückgeführt“ worden. Dort erwartet die Menschen Armut, Arbeitslosigkeit und weitreichende Diskriminierung. Tschechien: Mob will Roma-Viertel stürmen

Varndorf: Bedrohte Roma vor ihrem Haus (Foto: Romea.cz)Im nordböhmischen Varnsdorf an der tschechisch-deutschen Grenze haben vergangenes Wochenende mehrere hundert Rechtsextreme und Einwohner versucht,  ein von Roma bewohntes Stadtviertel zu stürmen. Rund 150 Roma stellten sich dem angreifenden Mob laut Meldung der tschechischen Nachrichtenagentur ČTK entgegen, um ihre Unterkünfte zu schützen. Ein Polizeikordon verhinderte eine direkte Gewaltkonfrontation. Rechtsextreme hatten zuvor im Internet zu der nicht genehmigten Versammlung der Neonazigruppe Svobodná mládež in Varnsdorf (wo bereits tags zuvor etwa 500 Personen gegen die Roma demonstriert hatten) aufgerufen. Die Polizei in Sachsen hatte die Kontrollen entlang der Grenze zu Tschechien verschärft, weil man mit der Teilnahme deutscher Neonazis am Treffen im Nachbarland rechnete.

In der nordtschechischen Region nehmen die Proteste Einheimischer gegen aus anderen Landesteilen zugezogene Roma zunehmend beängstigende Ausmaße an. Neonazis versuchen die Lage weiter zu eskalieren und rufen für den 10. September zu einer Anti-Roma-Kundgebung der in Nový Bor auf. Nur verstärkte Polizeipräsenz konnte ein tatsächliches Umschlagen der Pogromstimmung in Massengewalt (wie zuletzt in der Stadt Rumburk) bisher verhindern.

Ausstellung„Begegnung mit Mythos und Realität – Roma in Osteuropa“ heißt eine Ausstellung, die von 6. bis 9. September 2011 im KunstSozialRaum Brunnenpassage (Brunnengasse 71/Yppenplatz, 1160 Wien) zu sehen ist. Die Ausstellung ist ein Projekt im Rahmen des Komenský-Fonds von ERSTE Stiftung und Caritas mit zusätzlicher Unterstützung von Erste Bank und youngCaritas.

Ob in Osteuropa oder auch in Österreich: Nach wie vor sind die Roma sozial benachteiligt, ausgegrenzt und ihre Lebensumstände bleiben vielen Menschen unbekannt. Matthias Dorninger, Stefanie Freynschlag, Anna Rogenhofer und Fabian Weiß, vier junge FotografInnen der Höheren Graphischen Bundes-Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Wien, haben sich auf den Weg gemacht und sind eingetaucht in das Leben von Roma-Dörfern in Tschechien, Rumänien und der Slowakei. Das Ergebnis dieser Begegnungen sind berührende künstlerische Zeugnisse des Alltags der Roma, aber auch des Dialogs, der diesen Bildern vorangegangen ist. Am Samstag, den 3. September 2011 besuchte Monika Scheweck vom Referat für ethnische Gruppen und der Oberwarter Rom Ludwig Horvath das 700 Personen zählende Roma-Dorf Phuska in Slowenien. Bei einem Festakt der Caritas Österreich wurde das Buch „Köstlichkeiten der Roma“, das unter der Leitung von Sonja Horvath im Rahmen eines Projektes gemeinsam mit dem dort ansässigen Roma entstanden ist, vorgestellt. Auch der Blumenschmuck und andere Sachen, welche in der Freizeit hergestellt werden, wurden präsentiert. Nach der Präsentation wurden die kulinarischen Spezialitäten der Roma bei einem gemütlichen Beisammensein verspeist.
