Presseaussendung, 9.5.2011: Der Arbeitskreis „Universität Tübingen im Nationalsozialismus“ hat sich als interdisziplinäre Forschergruppe dem Themenfeld der ,Zigeunerforschung’, der ,Kriminalbiologie‘ und der Zwangssterilisation von ‚Zigeunern‘ sowie dem späteren Umgang damit an der Universität Tübingen gewidmet und einen Bericht mit einem Überblick über die Forschungsergebnisse vorgelegt. Die abwertende historische Fremdbezeichnung ‚Zigeuner‘ ist nicht deckungsgleich mit der Selbstbezeichnung Sinti und Roma, da sie mehr Gruppen umfasst. Oftmals wurden auch die Jenischen und andere Bevölkerungsgruppen unter der Kategorie ‚Zigeuner’ subsumiert.
Für die theoretische Wegbereitung der Verfolgung von Personengruppen, die als ‚Zigeuner‘ stigmatisiert wurden, kam ab 1936 der Rassenhygienischen und Bevölkerungsbiologischen Dienststelle des Reichsgesundheitsamts in Berlin unter der Leitung von Robert Ritter (1901-1951) eine zentrale Bedeutung zu. Ritter war zuvor von 1933 an als Nervenarzt an der Tübinger Universitätsnervenklinik tätig gewesen. Er engagierte sich bereits in Tübingen als aktiver ‚Rassenhygieniker’. Seine Tübinger Habilitationsschrift „Ein Menschenschlag“ stellte eine ‚rassenbiologische‘ Untersuchung über soziale Randgruppen aus dem Tübinger Raum dar. Sie legte bereits die methodischen Grundlagen für die spätere systematische Erfassung von ‚Zigeunern‘ in Deutschland, die sein Institut ab 1936 mit über 23.000 Gutachten umsetzte und die im späteren Genozid an den ‚Zigeunern’ endete.

Der junge Pianist und Komponist Adrian Gaspar trifft 2008 den Sinto Hugo Höllenreiner, der vier Konzentrationslager und Experimente des SS-Arztes Josef Mengele überlebt hat. Beeindruckt von dessen Erzählungen und Lebensfreude entsteht sein erstes sinfonisches Werk, die „Symphonia Romani – Bari Duk“. In der musikalischen Aufarbeitung zitiert Gaspar mit Hilfe eines Vokal-Solisten die Worte Höllenreiners auf Romanes. Der aus dieser Zusammenarbeit entstandene Dokumentarfilm porträtiert die beiden Lebenskünstler, deren unterschiedliche Biografien durch die gemeinsame Sprache verbunden sind.

Der Zerrissenheit zwischen den Welten, der Suche nach den eigenen Wurzeln und dem Trauma des Holocaust verleiht die Künstlerin Katarzyna Pollok in ihrer Arbeit einen kraftvollen Ausdruck, der nicht nur Ventil ihrer Empörung ist, sondern darüber hinaus die eigene Identität wieder freilegen und festigen soll.
1961 in Kiew geboren, in Polen aufgewachsen, in Berlin lebend: Die Malerin Katarzyna Pollok scheint die „traumatischen Erfahrungen“ ihrer Kindheit und Jugend nicht nur in ihrer Kunst verarbeiten, sondern auch räumlich überwinden zu wollen. In ihren Bildern, Zeichnungen und Collagen jedenfalls verhandelt Pollok die Erinnerungen einer Familie, die durch Krieg und nationalsozialistische Verfolgung geprägt war. Aber auch durch den heute noch allerorts präsenten Rassismus gegenüber den Sinti und Roma. Katarzyna Polloks Vater lebte während des Zweiten Weltkriegs lange Zeit versteckt, bevor er nach dem Kriegsende seine Herkunft leugnete, um zu überleben. Das Bekenntnis zur Minderheit der Roma sollte fortan innerhalb der Familie ein Tabu sein. Durch die Verleugnung der eigenen familiären Identität erfuhr die Künstlerin erst spät von ihren Wurzeln und ihrer Zugehörigkeit zur Roma-Minderheit. Sie erinnert an einen Völkermord, manche versehen ihn mit dem Prädikat „der Vergessene“, den Völkermord an den Sinti und Roma. Bis heute gelten sie als die am meisten diskriminierte Volksgruppe in Europa, woran die Antidiskriminierungsstelle des Bundes (…) am Internationalen Roma-Tag wieder einmal erinnert hat. Joachim Brenner, Gründer des Fördervereins Roma in Frankfurt, geht weiter. Die Schwestern Simonida und Sandra Selimović haben in Wien gemeinsam den Verein „Romano Svato“ („Sprache/Zunge der Roma“) gegründet, um sich in Zukunft um ihre eigenen Theaterstücke zu kümmern. Workshop „Verfolgung der Sinti und Roma im Nationalsozialismus“

Der Workshop nimmt die soziale Struktur und das kollektive Schicksal der Sinti und Roma als Häftlingsgruppe in vier Konzentrationslagern in den Blick, diskutiert Forschungsergebnisse zur regionalen NS-Verfolgung von Sinti und Roma und stellt das Einzelschicksal eines deutschen Sinto vor. Fragen des Umgangs mit der NS-Verfolgung der Sinti und Roma in der deutschen Erinnerungskultur nach 1945 werden ebenfalls diskutiert. Die Veranstaltung dient der Vorbereitung des Themenhefts 14 der Zeitschrift „Beiträge zur Geschichte der nationalsozialistischen Verfolgung in Norddeutschland“, hat Werkstattcharakter und ist offen für Interessierte aus Wissenschaft und Bildung.

Roma sollen sich ihrer Geschichte bewusst werden, gerade auch in der schmerzlichen Zeit des Nationalsozialismus – das ist eines der Anliegen des Roma-Service. Die Organisation tourt mit einem Bus durch das gesamte Burgenland, kommt aber auch in die Steiermark oder nach Wien. Der Bus macht Station, um Roma zu informieren, oder führt zu Veranstaltungen wie der Donaufriedenswelle am 17. Februar 2011 in der Wiener Donaucitykirche. Hier befasste sich einer der Workshops mit der Situation der Roma, und ich hatte Gelegenheit, mit Emmerich Gärtner-Horvath, dem Obmann des Roma-Service zu sprechen.
„Die Generation, die zwischen 1926 und 1930 geboren ist, setzt sich am meisten mit der Vergangenheit auseinander“, sagt er. Seiner Erfahrung nach verdrängen besonders jene Roma, die zwischen 1950 und 1960 geboren wurden. Für sie ist das alles vorbei, vor ihrer Geburt geschehen, also meinen sie, es müsste sie nicht interessieren. „Aber die Geschichte wirkt nach, es gibt Menschen, die nicht wissen, wo ihre Angehörigen gestorben sind, Menschen, denen man die Kinder weggenommen hat, die nie erfahren haben, was aus ihnen wurde.“ Das Roma-Service kommt in Schulen und spricht mit den 16-, 17-Jährigen, „die dann nach Hause gehen, und da serviert man ihnen eine andere Wahrheit. Wem sollen sie dann glauben, dem Mann, der ihnen etwas erzählt hat, oder ihren Eltern, denen sie vertrauen?!“
