November 2011 im Landesstudio Burgenland um 19:00 Uhr präsentiert wird.
Irene Brickner interviewte für den Standard den Psychiater und Neurologen Klaus Mihacek, der mit 1. Juli die ärztliche Leitung von Esra, dem 1994 gegründeten Wiener Zentrum für die psychosoziale Betreuung jüdischer und anderer Überlebender der NS-Verfolgung, übernahm. 2011 erhielt Esra den Bruno-Kreisky-Preis für Verdienste um die Menschenrechte. Im Interview ging Mihacek auch auf die über viele Jahrzehnte schwer auf den überlebenden Roma – und ihren Familien – lastende Traumatisierung durch die NS-Verfolgung ein, wie sie uns auch in vielen Zeitzeugengesprächen für Mri Historija und Amari Historija begegnet ist. Zeilen aus dem Gedicht „Auschwitz“ von Alexian Santino Spinelli, einem in Italien lebenden Roma (korrekt: Rom; Anm. dROMa), sind auf dem Brunnenrand schon zu lesen, aber fertig ist das Mahnmal noch immer nicht.

Seit Jahren bemüht sich unser Verein Roma-Service gemeinsam mit anderen Roma-Repräsentanten, das Gedenken an die Tausenden vom NS-Regime ermordeten Roma in den verschiedenen Gemeinden des Burgenlands zu ermöglichen. Vielerorts mit Erfolg, wie die Errichtung von Gedenktafeln in Kleinpetersdorf, Neudörfl, Mattersburg und Kleinbachselten zeigt. Doch nicht überall ist die Erinnerung an die Opfer des Holocausts erwünscht. Ein kleiner südburgenländischer Ort verweigert sich stur dem Gedenken, schreibt heute der „Standard“. Die Schande von Kemeten, die Beleidigung der Toten, dauert an:

Der 2. August ging als Datum der Vernichtungsaktion anlässlich der Lagerauflösung des „Zigeunerfamilienlagers“ in Auschwitz in die Geschichte ein. In jener Nacht vom 2. auf den 3. August 1944 wurden rund 3000 Roma in den Gaskammern ermordet. Bereits seit 18 Jahren wird in Auschwitz der Opfer dieses Tages gedacht. Nun beschloss die polnische Regierung, diesen Tag zum nationalen Gedenktag zu machen.
Wie der „Spiegel“ in seiner aktuellen Ausgabe (29/2011, S. 16) berichtet, steht die jahrelange Skandalgeschichte des geplanten Denkmals für die im Nationalsozialismus ermordeten Sinti und Roma vor einer neuen Wende: Der Berliner Senat könnte nun – mitten im Wahlkampf um das Abgeordnetenhaus – die Zuständigkeit für den Bau abgeben. Derzeit werden Gespräche über eine mögliche Übernahme des Bauprojekts durch den Bund geführt. Die Senatsbauverwaltung der Hauptstadt hat sich bereits zu einer solchen Lösung bereit erklärt. Fachleute befürchten jedoch weitere Verzögerungen und zusätzliche Kosten. Sogar der teilweise Abriss des halbfertigen Mahnmals, das aus einem künstlichen See mit versenkbarer Stele besteht, wurde diskutiert.
Der mit der Mahnmalsgestaltung beauftragte Künstler Dani Karavan sieht laut Angaben seines Anwalts nach langen Auseinandersetzungen mit den zuständigen Beamten keine Möglichkeit mehr, die Zusammenarbeit mit der „absolut unfähigen Verwaltung“ fortzuführen. Die Ausführung der Gedenkstätte entspreche in vielen Punkten nicht seinen Vorgaben; vielmehr würden die Berliner Behörden das Vorhaben „wie den Bau einer Brücke und nicht wie den eines Kunstwerks“ behandeln. Schon im Dezember 2010 hatte der renommierte israelische Künstler mit dem Rückzug vom Projekt gedroht. Die in unmittelbarer Nähe des Reichstags geplante Gedenkstätte hätte eigentlich bereits im Oktober 2010 eingeweiht werden sollen.
Schon zuvor hatte sich der Baubeginn des Denkmals wiederholt verzögert. Bereits Anfang der 90er Jahre hatte die deutsche Bundesregierung einen Grundsatzbeschluss zur Errichtung einer eigenen Gedenkstätte gefasst, doch erst nach jahrelangen Streitigkeiten über Wortwahl und Inhalt der Inschriften (mehr dazu in dROMa 20/2008/PDF) erfolgte am 19. Die Koproduktion von NDR und Pinguin Studios über das ungewöhnliche Beispiel für Zivilcourage und aufrechten Gang in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus entsteht noch bis zum 1. Juli in Niedersachsen (Hannover, Varel, Sandbostel, Grasberg), Bremen, Berlin und Brandenburg, gefördert mit Mitteln der nordmedia Fonds GmbH in Niedersachsen und Bremen. Die jährliche Gedenkfeier wurde von der Familie Stojka initiiert. Zur Erinnerung wurde im Barankapark vor einigen Jahren ein Gedenkstein errichtet und ein roter Kastanienbaum gepflanzt. Der Park am Belgradplatz heißt seitdem offiziell Barankapark, benannt nach der Großmutter von Mongo Stojka. Die Organisation hatten heuer Harri Stojkas „Gipsy Music Association“ sowie der Kulturraum 10 mit freundlicher Unterstützung der Bezirksvorstehung Favoriten realisiert.

Die diesjährige Gedenkfeier zur Befreiung des Konzentrationslagers Mauthausen im Mai 1945 stand im Zeichen des religiös motivierten Widerstandes gegen das Nazi-Regime. Die Repräsentanten der Kirchen und Religionsgemeinschaften und der Vorsitzende des „Mauthausen-Komitees Österreich“, Willi Mernyi, appellierten gemeinsam an die Exekutive, alle Mittel und Maßnahmen zur Bekämpfung von Rechtsextremismus und Rassismus auszuschöpfen.
