EU-Romapolitik: „Gibt noch größere Lücken“

Die Situation der Roma in Europa habe sich zwar in den letzten beiden Jahren verbessert, aber es gebe doch noch „größere Lücken“, erklärte EU-Justizkommissarin Viviane Reding diese Woche vor dem Europaparlament in Straßburg (hier der Videomitschnitt der gesamten Sitzung). Der spanische Europa-Staatssekretär und Ratsvorsitzende Lopez Garrido betonte, „wir wollen die Strukturfonds für Roma zugänglich machen“. Dazu sei auch die Einbeziehung der örtlichen Behörden sowie der Roma-Vertretungen selbst notwendig. Die Kommission sollte technische Unterstützung geben. Er verwies darauf, dass die Roma die größte ethnische Minderheit in der EU sind. Allerdings lebten sie nicht auf dem gleichen Niveau wie der Durchschnitt der anderen Bürger.
