„Möglichkeit für die breite Öffentlichkeit“
Das Festival Romale! (Programm/PDF) gebe der breiten Öffentlichkeit die Möglichkeit, bewegende Einblicke in die tragische Geschichte der Roma, aber auch in die der Mehrheitsbevölkerung zu nehmen, sagt Emmerich Gärtner-Horvath vom Verein Roma Service. Hierfür wurden vom Verein die beiden Dokumentationen Mri Historija und Amari Historija zur Verfügung gestellt.
„So hat alles begonnen“: „Wir waren mit dem RomBus unterwegs und halfen den Roma beim Ausfüllen der Anträge für die Entschädigungszahlungen. Hierfür mussten wir genau über deren Lebensweg nachfragen“, sagt Gärtner-Horvath. Nach Gesprächen mit Überlebenden, kam von ihnen der Wunsch, ihre Lebensgeschichten der Öffentlichkeit preiszugeben. „Ja, und so hat dann alles im Jahr 2006 begonnen”, so Gärtner-Horvath weiter.
