„Rassismus in Zeiten der Krise“ war das Thema der Tagung (dROMa-Blog) im Albert-Schweitzer-Haus, die vom Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC) organisiert wurde. Die Tagung wurde am 21.1.2010 von Walter Posch, Direktor des VIDC, eröffnet. Posch betonte im Interview mit Gilda Horvath, wie erfreut er über die Anzahl der Teilnehmer und deren großes Interesse ist. „In Zeiten, in denen die Menschen einfache Antworten suchen, muss man mit sachlichen Inhalten gegensteuern“, ist Posch überzeugt. Prominent besetzt war das Rednerpult bereits in der ersten Runde. Mirjam Karoly, (Mitglied des Volksgruppenbeirates, OSZE), Daniel Stanko vom European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC, Slowakei), Michail Beis (European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, FRA) sowie Christa Achleitner, zuständig für Volksgruppen im Bundeskanzleramt, diskutierten unter Moderation von Cornelia Kogoj (Initiative Minderheiten) über die „soziale Integration in Zeiten der Krise“.
„Eine gelungene Veranstaltung“ ist es gewesen, meinte Volksgruppenvorsitzender Rudolf Sarközi, der während der zweiten Runde der Diskussion klare Worte fand. „Die Europäische Union macht taube Ohren“, so seine Kritik an den Aktivitäten europäischer Institutionen hinsichtlich der Roma in Europa. Iovanca Gaspar (MA 17), Valeriu Nicolae (European Roma Grassroots Organisation Network, Rumänien) sowie Eva Kovacs (Kulturanthropologin, Ungarn) setzten sich unter der Moderation von Gerhard Baumgartner (Historiker), ebenfalls in der zweiten Runde, mit dem Thema „Verfolgung und kulturelle Identität“ auseinander. Einigkeit bestand darüber, dass Projekte langfristig, nachhaltig und vor allem mit Roma gemeinsam konzipiert und umgesetzt werden müssten.
