Die „Schlaininger Gespräche“, die im Jahr 1982 gegründet wurden, beschäftigen sich mit Themen der Geschichte des Grenzraums zwischen Österreich und dem historischen Ungarn, wobei ein Schwerpunkt auf den burgenländischen Raum gelegt wird. Seit dem Beginn haben bereits hunderte Wissenschaftler aus dem In- und Ausland an den „Schlaininger Gesprächen“ teilgenommen und ihre Forschungsergebnisse in Vorträgen zur Diskussion gestellt.
Dieses Jahr widmeten sich die Gespräche auf Burg Schlaining den Roma und Sinti. Nach den Begrüßungsworten durch den Bürgermeister, Markus Szelinger, eröffnete der Vorsitzende des Volksgruppenbeirates der Roma, Rudolf Sarközi, die „34. Schlaininger Gespräche“. Erste Einblicke zum Thema erhielten die Tagungsteilnehmer dann in den interessanten Vorträgen von Thomas Fricke und Martin Krenn. Die „Schlaininger Gespräche“, welche vom 15. bis 18. September 2014 stattfanden, sind in der Kulturpolitik des Landes Burgenland ein Beispiel für eine effiziente und leistungsorientierte Forschungstätigkeit der burgenländischen Landeskunde.
