Nach schwerer Krankheit in den 80er Jahren wurde ihm sein Beruf immer mehr zur Berufung und es entstand das Bedürfnis, seine künstlerischen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten mit sozialem Engagement zu verknüpfen. Jede seiner Skulpturen verweist auf eine tiefere Bedeutung. Bei Projekten im In- und Ausland schmiedete er gemeinsam mit jungen Menschen, um sie ein Stück ihres Lebensweges zu begleiten.
