„Im Kommunismus hatten alle Roma einen Job. Als nach der Samtenen Revolution die Republik Slowakei entstanden ist, konnte man sehen, wie immer mehr und mehr Roma ihren Arbeitsplatz verloren haben“, sagt Zsolt Berki, Bandleader der neu formierten „Berki-Band“. „Dieses Schicksal widerfuhr auch meinem Vater, der dann später nach Österreich ging, um als Straßenmusiker in Graz Geld zu verdienen“, so Berki weiter. „In dieser Zeit besuchten meine Schwester und ich die Universität, welche wir nachher abbrechen mussten. Da ich in der Slowakei keine Arbeit gefunden habe, bin ich auch nach Graz gegangen und verdiente am Anfang meinen Lebensunterhalt als Straßenmusiker, wie einst mein Vater“, so der Bandleader.
