Er war des Öfteren in Wien und im Burgenland. Weiters war Franz Remmel jene Person, die zu rumänischen Roma-Organisationen und Roma-Vertreter den Kontakt herstellte. Als einer der prominentesten Roma-Forscher Rumäniens verfügt über ein reichhaltiges Foto- und Print-Archiv zu Romafragen. Sein enges Verhältnis zum ersten „Roma-König“ Rumäniens, Ioan Cioabă, brachte Remmel die Funktion als dessen Berater. Dadurch hat er sein Wissen zum Thema bereichern können, sagt der Roma-Forscher.
