Valeriu Nicolae: „EU ist politisch gescheitert“

„Politisch gescheitert“ sei die EU in den letzten zwanzig Jahren, was die Roma und Sinti betreffe, erklärte Valeriu Nicolae, Direktor des Politik-Zentrums für Roma und Minderheiten (Policy Centre) in Bukarest, im Interview mit Gilda Horvath für Radio Kaktus. Valeriu Nicolae sieht viele Defizite in der europäischen Roma-Politik: „Es gibt kaum Roma-Experten in der EU und Roma selbst sind nur marginal in die Prozesse integriert. Abgesehen davon muss man die Mitgliedsländer stärker in die Verantwortung nehmen – denn sie müssen die Vorschläge der EU letzten Endes umsetzen.“
Die Besetzung des Dorfes Gyöngyöspata durch eine Nachfolgeorganisation der „Ungarischen Garde“ (mehr z. B. hier) sei leider „das beste Beispiel“ für das Versagen der Europäischen Union im Bezug auf Roma-Politik. Im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung erklärte auch Barbora Černušáková von Amnesty International ihre Sicht der aktuellen Situation im Dorf Gyöngyöspata in Ungarn: „Ich bin schockiert über die Polizei. Sie haben erst begonnen die Roma in Gyöngöspata zu beschützen, als Druck von den Medien und den internationalen Menschenrechtsorganisationen aufkam. Sie haben aber die Aufgabe, für die Menschen da zu sein – unabhängig von anderen Faktoren.“ Dies sei tragisch, besonders deswegen, weil in Ungarn die Roma der Polizei bereits seit 2008 nicht mehr vertrauen, als bei einem rassistischen Anschlag mehrere Menschen ums Leben kamen, aber die Polizei lange Zeit von einem „Unfall“ sprach.
Valeriu Nicolae besuchte Wien anlässlich der „Public Lecture“ „Überall diskriminiert. Die Situation der Roma in der EU“ im Haus der Europäischen Union organisiert vom Ludwig-Boltzmann-Institut und der Universitat Wien (Policy Center for Roma and Minorities).
