Programminformation Ö1: Dass Roma-Kinder oft in der Sonderschule landen, ist auch in Österreich noch immer Realität. Dass es auch anders gehen kann, zeigt das Projekt der Roma-Schulassistenz in Wien, das es seit mittlerweile zehn Jahren gibt. An fünf Schulstandorten werden Roma-Kinder von Assistentinnen des Romano Centro betreut. Sie stehen den Kindern im Unterricht zur Seite und fördern auch den Kontakt zwischen Schule und Elternhaus. Das Ziel ist: Chancengleichheit.
Auch Nicht-Roma-Kinder können Romanes singen, ein Ausdruck der gegenseitigen Wertschätzung. 25 Roma-Kinder besuchen die Schule, eines von ihnen: Milena ist von ihrer Lehrerin begeistert. Die Roma-Assistentin heißt Ivana Ferencova. Sie betreut die Kinder während des Unterrichts und bemüht sich darum, dass die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Schule und Eltern funktioniert. Erkundigt sich, wenn Kinder unentschuldigt fehlen, wenn sie keine Hausübung machen etc. Oft steht die Assistentin mit der Lehrerin Carola Förster in der Klasse. Das Projekt hat bewirkt, dass sich immer mehr Eltern als Roma outen. In der Vergangenheit wollten viele ihre Zugehörigkeit zu dieser Volksgruppe aus Angst vor Diskriminierung geheim halten, sagt Direktorin Brigitta Faber-Heiss. Heute kommen Eltern bewusst in diese Schule, weil sie wissen dass es hier Bildungsunterstützung gibt. Das bestätigt auch Andrea Härle von Romano Centro, das die vom Unterrichtsministerium finanzierte Roma-Assistenz mit 38.000 pro Jahr durchführt. Die Schule sei für Roma-Kinder ein geschützter Ort, weil es wieder mehr Ressentiments gegen Roma gibt. Milena etwa ist in der Schule geschützter als im Park. Milena selbst ist hin- und hergerissen, oft wird sie beschimpft.
Am 8. April anlässlich des internationalen Roma-Tages veranstaltet die Schule Workshops, lädt Expertinnen und Experten ein und präsentiert Ergebnisse des Roma-Projekts. Das Ziel ist, die Schulassistenz auszubauen – falls es dafür Geld gibt. (Text: ORF/Ö1)
